Yellow Wildflowers in Sint Pietersberg Chalk Grassland

Tall yellow composites — hawkweed or Crepis, most likely — push up through the dry meadow grass on the chalk grassland slopes of Sint Pietersberg. The stems lean at different angles, some in sharp focus, others dissolving into the haze of seed-heavy grasses behind them. At the treeline the light drops away fast. It is a landscape that does its own thing regardless of who is watching — unhurried, mid-summer, full of warm gold.
