Summer Meadow at Sint Pietersberg, Limburg

Tall grass fills the foreground at Sint Pietersberg, the seed heads catching the midday light before the land flattens into a treeline at the horizon. Above it, a full cumulus cloudscape does what the sky rarely gets credit for — it holds the composition together with the same authority a building usually lends. The warm greens carry right through to the cloud bases; the scene is dense with summer but still, unhurried. This is the Dutch countryside at the edge of Maastricht, where the landscape opens up and asks nothing of the viewer except to look.
