Large steel ship propeller on a red brick quayside in Rotterdam, with the white hull and funnels of the SS Rotterdam moored behind it and a yellow gantry crane visible to the right under clear blue sky.

Ship Propeller and SS Rotterdam, Rotterdam Harbour

28 May 2026 · Rotterdam

A decommissioned ship propeller sits on the quayside at Katendrecht, its three swept blades casting hard shadows across the red-brick plaza under full summer sun. Behind it, the SS Rotterdam fills the midground — the ocean liner's white hull and twin funnels reading as architecture as much as vessel. The propeller earns its place in the foreground not as ornament but as industrial object: the geometric authority of the blades grounds the composition, and the gantry crane rising to the right keeps the working port in frame alongside the heritage one.
