Ship Superstructure Against the Sun, Rotterdam Port

28 May 2026 · Rotterdam

A large vessel superstructure fills the frame from a low dockside angle, mast and rigging lines cutting hard geometry against a blown-out midday sun. Signal flags string colour across the white hull; stay wires trace the sky in every direction. The shot is graphic where it could have been merely nautical — the contre-jour flattens the tonal range to near-silhouette at the dock level, while the upper structure holds detail right up to the solar disc. Rotterdam's working harbour keeps it honest: the closed roll-down shutters in the foreground make clear this is infrastructure, not spectacle.
