Wide-angle view of Rotterdam Centraal Station from the forecourt plaza. The massive cantilevered steel roof dominates the upper frame as a sharp diagonal. The glass facade below reads CENTRAAL STATION in large letters. Pedestrians cross the sunlit brick square in the foreground under a clear blue sky.

Rotterdam Centraal Station — Cantilevered Roof Over the Urban Plaza

28 May 2026 · Rotterdam

The cantilevered roof of Rotterdam Centraal cuts a single bold diagonal across the frame, pressing the steel-grey canopy flat against a deep blue summer sky. Architecture this decisive doesn't ask for scale references — the pedestrians crossing the plaza supply them anyway. Designed by Team CS and completed in 2014, the station's glass facade mirrors the city back at itself while the roof plane asserts its own geometry overhead. Infrastructure built like a statement.
