De Rotterdam's three interlocking towers rise from Wilhelminapier as a single graphic mass — stacked glass and steel, the vertical fins pulling each slab tight against the next. Rem Koolhaas designed the building to be read from the water, and the Maas obliges. The MSC Virtuosa sits docked at the lower right, its curved white hull doing exactly what a cruise ship bow shouldn't be allowed to do: make a 160-metre skyscraper look like a mid-rise.
