Fort Sint-Pieter Curtain Wall, Maastricht

9 May 2026 · Sint

Fort Sint-Pieter's brick curtain wall runs flat across the frame, its row of musketry loopholes punched at regular intervals into centuries-old masonry. The earthwork mound rises behind it, a red flag over the casemate entrance cutting against a clear summer sky. The wall does the structural work — horizontal mass held against vertical punctuation — and the fort's geometry makes the argument without needing ornament.
