The canopy at Bijlmer Arena station spreads in two wave forms above an empty platform, its glazing ribs and steel framework pulling the eye toward the city skyline beyond. Catenary wires bisect the open end of the frame; construction cranes punctuate the mid-distance. The timber ceiling panels bring warmth to a structure that is otherwise all steel and sky — architecture built for transit that reads just as readily as architecture for its own sake.
