Leiden Church Tower and Lamp Column at Golden Hour

A worm's-eye view from Leiden's Lammenschans district pushes two brick structures into the same frame: the tapered church tower with its sundial and gothic portal climbing toward a deep blue sky, and a leaning street lamp column cutting a diagonal across it. The vertical and the oblique pull against each other — the sacred and the secular in the same red brick, the same warm evening light, resolved by neither. A flock of birds clears the roofline just above the nave, unaware of the geometry below.
