A solar halo burns directly behind the mill cap at Hoofddorp, reducing the windmill to a sharp silhouette against a disc of white light. The sails cross the corona at the exact moment a bird clears the upper right — the frame holds three planes of depth in near-total backlight. Wet asphalt in the foreground picks up the glare, anchoring the composition to the ground while the sky does the heavy work. Stillness and movement in the same exposure, the polder landscape stripped to its most essential geometry.
