Low-angle upward view of a red-brick Gothic Revival Catholic church in Hoofddorp, its clock tower and steeple framed by tree branches against a deep blue summer sky. Decorative heraldic mosaic tilework covers the foreground plaza.

Gothic Revival Church, Hoofddorp Church Square

15 May 2025 · Hoofddorp

Hoofddorp's Catholic church anchors its square with the kind of verticality that brick Gothic Revival does best — the clock tower and pointed steeple rising through the frame, held in place by a tree canopy overhead and a heraldic mosaic pavement underfoot. The low-angle view compresses the surrounding Dutch townhouses into the edges, leaving the facade as the unambiguous subject. Two fixed points, centuries apart in their craft, and the building holds the middle ground between them.
