Gothic Arch Window, Whitewashed Church Facade — Katwijk aan Zee

12 May 2025 · Katwijkaan Zee

A large Gothic arch window dominates the gable end of a whitewashed Dutch Reformed church in Katwijk aan Zee. Red brick outlines the pointed arch against flat white render — two materials, one decisive graphic relationship. Behind the brick surround, a grid of glazing bars subdivides the opening into a tight geometric pattern that holds its own against the plainness of the wall. Clear winter light catches the brick from the left, pulling the warm red tones out against the cool white plaster and blue sky above.
