Whitewashed Dutch Reformed church with Gothic arch windows and brick-trimmed nave, brick parapet walls flanking a cobblestone forecourt, clock tower with weathervane against a clear deep blue sky in Katwijk aan Zee.

Andreaskerk, Katwijk aan Zee — Tower and Gothic Nave

12 May 2025 · Katwijkaan Zee

The Andreaskerk in Katwijk aan Zee presents its whitewashed facade flush against a deep blue sky, the brick-trimmed Gothic arches of the nave running the full length of the building toward the clock tower. Brick parapet walls frame a cobblestone forecourt and pull the eye from ground level straight up to the weathervane — the composition does the work the architecture was already doing. A coastal Dutch Reformed church built to be seen from the sea, and it still reads that way from the street.
