A traditional sailing vessel sits beached at Katwijk aan Zee as the sun drops to the North Sea horizon. The mast and rigging frame the solar disc with an exactness that looks deliberate — the warm amber glow at the waterline bleeding upward into a deep blue-grey sky that holds the last of the day. The vessel is dark, almost featureless; the sky does the work. Stillness on the Dutch coast, measured in warm light and a mast pointing nowhere in particular.
