World Trade Center Amsterdam — Glass Facade and Bronze Sculpture

5 May 2025 · Amsterdam Zuid

The entrance to World Trade Center Amsterdam reads as two competing grids: the glass curtain wall divides the facade into precise vertical and horizontal registers, while the bronze figurative sculpture in the foreground pulls the geometry back toward the human. Bright daylight flattens both into high contrast tones — the deep shadows inside the revolving door, the pale white mullions, the dark patina of cast bronze. Architecture here is the subject; the sculpture is the argument that scale alone does not settle a building's meaning.
