Nela Building, Amsterdam Zuid — Stepped Facade and Planted Terraces
5 May 2025 · Amsterdam Zuid
The Nela building in Amsterdam Zuid stacks its floors in a cascading setback geometry, each terrace carrying planting that softens the stone cladding without apologising for the structure beneath. Stone, glass, and greenery work as a single composed surface — the facade does the heavy lifting, and the diagonal staircase in the lower third adds a second rhythm that keeps the eye moving. Biophilic architecture at urban scale: the building holds its mass and its garden at the same time.
