Dove Tree in Bloom — Amstel Park, Amsterdam

5 May 2025 · Amsterdam Amstel Park

Davidia involucrata in full spring flower, photographed from below in Amstel Park. The white bracts hang from the branches like suspended cloth — paired with backlit lime-green foliage and gaps of blue sky, the tree earns its common names: handkerchief tree, ghost tree, dove tree. The warm grade pulls out what the eye actually registers standing underneath: a canopy lit from within, the bracts almost glowing against leaves that glow harder. Spring in the Netherlands produces maybe two weeks of this.
