Judas Tree Canopy, Amstel Park Amsterdam

Looked straight up through a Judas tree in Amstel Park at the moment the pink blossom was still competing with the new green leaves. The branches fan across a clear spring sky, dividing blue into irregular pieces. Cercis siliquastrum in full flower does this — it turns structure into spectacle, every branch carrying both the weight of old wood and the brightness of new colour. Shot from below, the canopy fills the frame completely, sky reduced to whatever gaps the tree allows.
