Looking up through a vaulted pleached hornbeam tunnel in Amstelpark Amsterdam, arching branches forming repeating green arches overhead with summer light filtering through the dense leaf canopy.

Pleached Tree Tunnel at Amstelpark Amsterdam

5 May 2025 · Amsterdam Amstel Park

A hornbeam tunnel in Amstelpark Amsterdam, its arching branches trained into repeating vaults overhead. The canopy is dense enough to feel structural — ribs of bare wood holding back a ceiling of summer leaves, with daylight pressing through from the far end. Organic geometry doing the work of architecture: the garden builds a nave out of living material, and the result reads as both wild and designed.
