A weeping willow tree on the bank of a calm Dutch pond, its full canopy reflected symmetrically in the still water. Lily pads dot the foreground; reeds and dense summer foliage fill the background under a partly cloudy sky.

Weeping Willow Reflected in a South Holland Pond

2 May 2025 · Walk from Leiderdorp to Leiden

A large weeping willow dominates the bank of a still pond near Leiderdorp, its trailing branches mirrored almost perfectly in the water below. Lily pads drift across the foreground, anchoring the reflection and breaking the symmetry just enough to remind you it's water, not glass. The warm greens of a Dutch summer afternoon settle across the whole frame — tree, bank, and their double below the surface. Still water makes a landscape do its work twice.
