Fallen Log and Wild Garlic in Spring, Leiderdorp

A fallen log cuts across a woodland floor thick with wild garlic in full bloom. The exposed growth rings sit at the centre of the frame — concentric, worn, the bark cracked along each line — while Allium ursinum crowds in on both sides, white star-shaped flowers pressing against the grey wood. Overcast spring light flattens the shadows and holds every texture steady: the rough bark, the broad waxy leaves, the tight clusters of white. One surface records decades of slow growth; the other announces a single season. That contrast is what the frame is actually about.
