Footbridge Through a Green Tunnel, Leiderdorp Canal

2 May 2025 · Walk from Leiderdorp to Leiden

A small footbridge sits low over a Dutch polder canal in Leiderdorp, nearly swallowed by the summer canopy closing in from both banks. The deciduous trees arch overhead and meet in the middle, forming a tunnel that turns the open waterway into something much more enclosed. Warm dappled light finds the pale handrail and a cluster of blooms on the left bank; everything else recedes into layered shadow. The bridge is incidental — the canopy is the subject.
