A bascule bridge frames a church steeple against a warm gradient sky at the end of a summer evening on the Leiderdorp canal. The water carries the last of the golden hour — peach and amber running all the way to the foreground ripple where something just broke the surface. The Dutch ophaalbrug is a silhouette here, reduced to its essential geometry: two uprights and a crossbar holding the sky in place. Sky and water doing the same work from opposite directions.
