Steel X-Brace and Pilotis, The Hague Civic Architecture

1 May 2025 · The Hague

Four pale-blue tubular columns cross into a structural knot at mid-height, their diagonals locking into an X-brace that holds an entire elevated building above the street. The geometry is engineered first and sculptural second — but the distinction barely holds. Shot from below, the gridded soffit becomes a second compositional layer pressing down against the upward reach of the steel. Modernist civic architecture in The Hague, resolved entirely through structural logic.
