Bibliotheek aan de Spui — Blackletter Facade, The Hague

1 May 2025 · The Hague

The Gothic blackletter lettering pressed into the curved dark curtain wall of Bibliotheek aan de Spui is an unlikely pairing — medieval script scaled to the width of a modern civic building. Shot from below, the facade tilts into the frame and the overhead tram wires cut diagonal lines across the pale sky, compressing the scene into a tight geometric stack. Architecture as typography, and typography as architecture: each borrows authority from the other.
