Low-angle upward view of a tall stepped contemporary residential tower with grid-patterned balconies, framed against a clear sky, with a dark brutalist brick facade occupying the right foreground.

Stepped Tower and Brutalist Facade, The Hague

1 May 2025 · The Hague

Two buildings, two eras, one frame. The Hague's contemporary stepped residential tower rises in tight layers of glass and concrete balconies, its pale geometric grid pressing upward against a clear sky. In the foreground, the dark mass of a brutalist structure — heavy brick, cantilevered landings, shadow carved into its face — holds the ground. The tower is precise and ordered; the brutalist facade is dense and blunt. The monochrome rendering strips both back to form and surface, making the contrast between them the actual subject.
