Lime Tree Canopy Over Burcht van Leiden

A mature lime tree grows inside the Burcht van Leiden, its spring canopy backlit against a clear sky into vivid green. The trunk rises in near-silhouette while the leaves catch full sun above — the built and the organic sharing the same ground without competition. Behind it, the medieval brick wall and arched gateway hold their position, old enough that the tree feels like a recent addition. The warm light pulls the foliage forward and pushes the stonework back, two things in the same frame living by different rules.
