Autumn Canopy in Crimson, Leiden

Deep crimson foliage fills the frame above Leiden, bare pale branches threading through the mass of red leaves against a hard cobalt sky. The canopy reads as a single dense structure — colour and form working together rather than separately. Autumn in the Netherlands pushes the palette to its edge: the warmth of the leaves and the cool of the sky hold the image in tension without either side giving ground.
