Hooglandse Kerk — Gothic Buttresses Against Blue Sky, Leiden

29 April 2025 · Leiden walk towards, in and around Burcht

The buttress peaks of the Hooglandse Kerk cut a sharp diagonal rhythm against a clear summer sky. Viewed from street level below the nave, the brick Gothic facade stacks tracery windows, stone arches, and flying buttresses into a single upward read — each tier pressing further into the blue. The structure holds its geometry without compromise; the sky simply makes the argument obvious.
