Gothic Lancet Window, Leiden Church Exterior

29 April 2025 · Leiden walk towards, in and around Burcht

Stone mullions divide the lancet window into three tall vertical lights, each capped by Gothic tracery carved with interlocking foils and cusps. The diamond-patterned leaded glass holds the geometry in place while the red brick facade around it absorbs the summer sun — hard geometry held inside harder material. Close range makes the stone feel tactile: not a backdrop, but the subject itself.
