The well surround at Burcht van Leiden sits low and circular against the old brick wall, its surface thick with lichen and centuries of weathering. Dappled tree shadows move across the warm red brickwork behind it — the wall alive with light while the well itself holds still. Two materials, two registers: the worked roundness of the well curb against the flat geometry of the laid brick. A texture study as much as a place.
