Concertgebouw Amsterdam — Neoclassical Facade, Museumplein
19 September 2017 · Amsterdam
The Concertgebouw's neoclassical facade reads as pure geometry against an autumn blue sky — white stone columns, red brick, and a sculptural frieze pressing into the pediment above the entrance. The gold lyre at the apex marks the building's purpose plainly, without needing to announce it. Architecture as civic statement: the ornamentation is specific to the function, and the proportions hold it all in place.
